La Sécurité ‘Bingo’

La Sécurité’s 2023 debut STAY SAFE! arrived with a sound that was impossible to ignore—intriguing, unruly and dead impressive.
Because all current roads lead to Devo, we know it’s been done before, so IYKYK. That said, you simply don’t hear these eclectic and erratic sonic arrangements in most music these days. Carried by bass lines that literally slap and accompanied by electrifying synth—you can hear an array of prog and punk elements spanning the late 70s and early 80s within their disparate, yet cohesive, dynamic art punk sound.
With their sophomore album Bingo!, La Sécurité definitely has a tighter sound that is even more up-tempo, distorted and noisier than their debut.
Coming in hot with the seemingly silly, yet extremely witty title track, Snack City, Bingo! drops straight into solid danceable fun. La Sécurité then takes it up a notch with the absolute banger Deny, which somehow manages to candidly speak to a dysfunctional relationship without you even knowing because you can’t stop bopping; in some cases, pogoing on the spot. They then round it out perfectly with the ever thoughtful and beautifully bilingual Detour.
These are just the first three tracks on Bingo!, but collectively reflect the undeniable technical prowess of this Montréal/Tiohtià:ke based quintet. With off-kilter and often frenetic arrangements enveloped by Éliane’s spoken word approach to singing, La Sécurité definitely hook you hard into dancing like it really matters.
Bingo! is out now on Mothland and Bella Union.
